Curriculum Vitae

Mark D’Amico is a Professor of Higher Education and former Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at UNC Charlotte. Mark primarily studies community college transfer and noncredit education and has published more than 60 scholarly articles and book chapters. His work has been funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the John M. Belk Endowment, the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within NSF, and the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. Mark received the 2024 Cato College of Education Distinguished Faculty Award, and he is a recipient of the Barbara K. Townsend Emerging Scholar Award from the Council for the Study of Community Colleges, Excellence in Research and Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Cato College of Education, and the Distinguished Paper Award from South Carolina Educators for the Practical Use of Research.

Mark’s national leadership includes serving as Past-President of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges—an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges, current editorial board member and former Associate Editor of Community College Review and on the editorial boards of Community College Journal of Research and Practice, and New Directions for Community Colleges. He also serves on the myFutureNC Advisory Board of Commissioners.

Prior to his faculty role, Mark served for nearly 15 years in administrative positions including Executive Assistant to the President of the South Carolina Technical College System, Special Assistant to the President of Midlands Technical College, Interim Director of Admissions at Francis Marion University, and Assistant Director of Admissions at UNC Charlotte. Mark also held adjunct faculty positions in English, political science, and higher education at multiple universities and a community college in the Carolinas. Mark earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Arts and Humanities from Gannon University, an M.A. in Liberal Studies from UNC Charlotte, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching-Higher Education from UNC Greensboro.
